On 12th March 2018, one of the worst aviation disasters for commercial airlines took place in Kathmandu, Nepal.
A Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 registered S2-AGU of the US-Bangla Airlines that was headed from Dhaka to Kathmandu, veered off from its runway while it was landing on the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. The aircraft’s impact upon landing was so fierce and devastating that it shortly caught fire.
According to the media reports, the aircraft was 17 years old one of the airlines and it was carrying 67 passengers along with 4 crew members on its flight when it met with a disaster landing.
The flight took off from Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport and was headed for its destination at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal.
US-Bangla Airlines is a privately owned airline that is headquartered in Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport.
The aircraft; Dash 8 Q400, was previously operated for SAS Scandinavian Airlines, Royal Jordanian and Augsburg Airways before it came into service of US-Bangla Airlines.
According to media reports, nearly 49 people onboard the aircraft lost their life with remaining heavily injured.
Rescue and search operations services hurriedly arrived on the scene and after much struggle, they were able to contain the fire and dig out the remaining alive passengers who were in critical condition.
