Ryanair aircraft seized at Bordeaux Airport; authorities seized the aircraft over unpaid debts

On November 8th, 2018; a Ryanair aircraft; Boeing 737 was seized by the commission made by county council over the unpaid debts at the Bordeaux Airport.

Back in 29908/2009, Ryanair received subsidies from the Department of Charente to aid them in continuing their flights from Angoulême, Cognac Airport to London.

In 2014, EC (European Commission) announced that Ryanair received state Aid which is not in compliance with the EU rules stating, The low-cost airline paid less than the additional costs linked to their presence at the airport of Angoulême”.

The French Aviation Authorities said to media that after many failed attempts of recovering the amount of illegal State Aid from Ryanair, they are now forced to impound their aircraft until their payments have been settled.

Ryanair did not expect that their aircraft will be seized as it was headed to London.

The French Aviation Authority; DGAC stated, “we are regretful that France has to take such measures which have caused inconvenience to the onboard 149 passengers of the impounded aircraft. Passengers can still leave after five hours on another Ryanair aircraft.”

DGAC also stated that due to this inconvenience, Ryanair is entitled to compensate each passenger with 300 Euros.

Some other sources also revealed that Ryanair has announced that it will pay a sum of 525000 Euros in order to release their aircraft.
