A British technology research company by the name of “The Center for Process Innovation”, is looking to make new strides in aviation transport. What they want to do might sound absolutely crazy at first but it is an amazing idea. They want to remove the windows of the planes and replace them with OLED touch screens that will be extending to the entire length of the airplane. These OLED will then display the view of the outside; ergo the Big Blue Sky, through the cameras mounted on the exterior of the plane.
According to The Center for Process Innovation, windows are one of the unnecessary and weight bearing accessory of an airplane. Solid walls, on the other hand, are much stronger to these glass windows and can also be made to be thinner. The OLED screens that will replace the windows for a splendid view of the outside will also have options for passengers to select their entertainment onboard as well as have stewardess service.
The technology like all the other major breakthroughs has its own detractors. One main concern over these screen windows is the light pollution inside the cabin. Another major concern is that this panoramic view will actually not help those who suffer from Aviophobia; the fear of flying.
OLED screens that in place of windows will be placed over the length of an airplane will help the passengers see the sky and world outside of a flying plane.
These touch screens, in addition to letting passengers view the panoramic outside view, will also let them call for their flight information as well as let them order for a stewardess service.
These OLED screens will also allow passengers to have access to the internet and media.
The Center for Process Innovation claims that replacing the glass windows with OLED screens will actually help them reduce the weight of an aircraft. Instead of glass windows, the planes will have metal walls that can also be made thinner yet stronger.
