On November 12th, 2018 reports came to the US that a two-seat US Navy FA-18F Super Horne aircraft has been crashed at the sea. The aircraft at the moment was operating from the Navy’s USS Ronald Regan Aircraft carrier when the crash happened. According to inside sources, the crash occurred somewhere near the unspecified location at the northeast of the Philippines.
According to the report, both crewmen ejected momentarily before the crash and were later rescued by a military helicopter.
USS Ronald Regan aircraft carrier is currently embarked in the Pacific region with the Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5). This air wing is currently operating the following aircraft.
- Two seat F/A-18F Super Hornet variant
- Strike Fighter Squadron 102 (VFA-102)
- the “Diamondbacks”
According to reports, this is the second incident for an aircraft to take place on the USS Ronald Regan with less than a month apart.
Back on 19th October 2018, a US Navy MH-60 Helicopter was making an emergency landing on the carrier when it crashed and resulted in injuring 12 crewmen. According to the last reports on October 25th, three of those crewmen still are hospitalized.
This Super Hornet crash incident is the second for the US Super Hornet in 2018 alone and the sixth one since May of 2016.
