Top 10 Most Beautiful Airplanes of past and present
There are literally hundreds of extremely sophisticated and smartly designed aircraft in the world. But when it comes to naming the aircraft that can be truly called beautiful, there are only a few of them.
The first question is what is the beauty of an aircraft? Well, the beauty for an aircraft is comprised of the symmetry among its components along with its coherent identity as well as the aircraft executing its own prominence among other aircraft.
While there are only a few beautiful aeroplanes in the world, they still exist. Today we decided to pitch in our two cents on this topic. We decided to present our readers with a list of Top 10 most beautiful aeroplanes in the world.
The first name on our list is the Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde aircraft. This is a turbo power jet commercial airplane which could travel at supersonic speeds. The top speed offered by this beauty of an aircraft is measured to nearly Mach 2.04 while having onboard a maximum of 128 passengers.
The aircraft flew for the first time back in 1969 and entered for its official commercial service back in 1976. Since then the aircraft served in the skies for nearly 27 years before it retired in 2003.
This is another famously designed airplane which was started by the major shareholder of the TWA; Howard Hughes. The Lockheed Constellation or more commonly known by its nickname “Connie” was manufactured back in 1943 with many of its variant coming until 1858. The first one was the Lockheed Constellation while the last one was the Lockheed Super Constellation.
All of these aircraft had a flight range of 5400 miles while flying at a speed of 340 mph while maintaining the altitude of 20000 feet.
Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird
Another creation from the Kelly Johnson and one of their best yet is the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird which is not in need of any praise. The aircraft is one of the best stealth aircraft in the world with an ingenious design making it appear as a pigeon on enemy radar.
The aircraft has a speed limit of 3.5 Mach but its true abilities are still a mystery even to its own creators. The aircraft is one of the few fighter jets that can evade any missile fired at them by traveling even faster.
The Dassault Rafael is a jet fighter aircraft that was manufactured in France by Dassault Aviation. It is a twin-engine aircraft that comes with canard delta wings and is a multirole fighter jet. The aircraft has been equipped with a wide array of air-to-air and air-to-land weapons in order to achieve air superiority. The aircraft design might make it seems like a thing of beauty, it happens to pack quite a punch for its enemies. The aircraft is also capable of carrying nuclear missiles.
The title of being the most beautiful jetliner with subsonic speeds goes to Vickers VC10 which is built in Great Britain. The aircraft is an elegant piece of aviation engineering that features sweeping lines all around it.
The aircraft also happens to be the only ever airliner in West to have presented a rear mounted gate along with four engine configuration. The aircraft entered in service back on April 1664 but was hardly a commercial success. As a result, the aircraft was taken off commercial service and the British Airways who made 54 of these Vickers VC10s retired them from service back in 1981.
Most of the symmetrically beautiful aircraft in the world are the military aircraft. Next on our list is also a world-renowned F-22 Raptor, a twin-engine and single-seat fighter jet for all weather stealth missions. The aircraft is their pride and joy of USAF which allowed USAF to have the air superiority in many of their war conflicts. The aircraft is also capable of carrying out not only ground attacks but nice also be used for electronic warfare as well as for reconnaissance missions.
While the Supermarine Spitfire is an aircraft of WWII era it still holds an important place n list of world’s most beautiful airplanes. The aircraft is also the one that had “Won the Battle of Britain”. The aircraft was featured with elliptical wings; first of its kind, that allowed it to perform better as compared to the traditional wing designed aircraft.
While the aircraft served as a fighter plane in WWII, it was initially designed as a racing airplane.
Learjet 85 is an airplane that fits perfectly in between the midsized and super midsized aircraft of the aviation market. The aircraft is a business class jet and was the first of its kind from the Bombardier Aerospace. The aircraft was presented with composite structure giving it symmetry and beauty. The superior design of the aircraft allowed it to be the fastest private jet at that time with a speed of Mach 0.82 that could fly for a range of 3000 miles.
Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle
SE 210 Caravelle is the top of the line beautiful airplane built by Sud Aviation in France. As it happens, the aircraft has been titled as the sexiest airplane of all times. With its symmetrical design when combined with its even sexier name Caravelle made it even more appealing to onlookers. The curves of the fuselage, its triangular windows along with its special tail made it a gorgeous piece of aviation engineering.
Piaggio Aero Avanti
The Piaggio P180 Avanti aircraft is a product of Italy’s aviation engineering presenting an aircraft with twin turboprop engines that were mounted on its pusher configuration. The aircraft’s role was to be an exclusive transport aircraft while allowing the nine passengers to comfortably sit in its pressurized cabin. The aircraft could be flown by two pilots but one could also fly it.
The design followed for its manufacturing was the three surface configurations that allowed a small forward wing along with a conventional tail and main wings.
