In Russia recently an online pool was taken all across Russia for the renaming of its 47 old airports. This online poll was the part of the Great Names of Russia project.
According to this polling Moscow’s gateway international airport Sheremetyevo will now be renamed as the Aleksandr Pushkin International Airport. This name is given after the beloved 19th-century Russian poet named Aleksandr Pushkin.
The second main airport of Moscow which is Domodedovo Airport will no e be renamed after the 18-century Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov.
As for the third largest airport in Moscow located in Vnukovo, it will be named after the man named Sergei Korolyov who is considered as the father of the Soviet Space program. However, according to the poll organizers, the final name for this third airport with many other airports is yet to be made official.
Other major airports across Russia which will be getting the new names are as follows.
- Voronezh (Peter the Great)
- Krasnodar (Catherine the Great)
- Magadan (Soviet bard poet Vladimir Vysotsky)
- Mineralnye Vody (19th-century writer Mikhail Lermontov)
- Petropavlovsk-Kamachatsky (Danish explorer Vitus Bering)
