Beijing Capital Airlines; Airbus A320 of the airline sustained heavy damages after hard landing at Macau Airport

Airbus A320 of the Capital airlines, on August 28th, suffered from a massive damage on its nose gear and the left hand engine. The damage occurred during the hard landing of the aircraft at Macau Island.

The aircraft’s flight no. JD5759 was headed from Beijing International Airport towards the Macau Airport. However, during the approach at the Macau airport due to bad weather consistent of rain and heavy gusts of wind reaching up to 30 knots, aircraft was hit on the runway hard.

One of the gears of the aircraft got detached and struck the left hand engine. The communication system also failed and there was no satellite phone on the aircraft. Pilots were only contacting the ground with help of onboard ACARS.

Pilots declared the Mayday situation and then entered the holding pattern located northeast of the airport. They deice to divert the plane towards Shenzhen airport. Pilots did a low pass over the field for the visual check of landing gears.

The accident has been confirmed by Beijing International Airport. According to sources, there were 166 passengers and 9 crew members aboard the plane. After the plane successfully landed on Shenzhen Airport, the emergency was placed. Only five of the passengers suffered from minor injuries and all of those injuries occurred during the evacuation procedure.
