New President of Mexico on his first day as Head of State puts Mexican Air Force B787-8 Dreamliner

The new President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador on his first day of assuming the position of the Head of State puts the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner TP-01 “José María Morelos y Pavón” of the Fuerza Aèrea Mexicana. The aircraft has been put up for sale at the Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City, Mexico.

Carlos Urzua, the new Minister of Finance on December 2nd, 2018 called a press conference in the Mexico City and said to the media representatives that they are allowed to observe the Presidential Boeing 787 not only from the outside but also from the inside which will allow them to have a glimpse of the VIP Configuration for the head of state of Mexico. The inside of the aircraft has the following features.

  • the aircraft interiors feature flat-screen monitors in executive meeting rooms
  • a presidential bedroom
  • a marble-clad bathroom

The new president in his rally at Xalapa, Veracruz said to the people of Mexico that, “we are selling all the planes and helicopters that have been used previously by the corrupt politicians”.

The sale of the TP-01 has been one of the popular promises of Obrador during his presidential candidacy campaign and now he is fulfilling this promise after assuming the role of the President of Mexico.

This aircraft which is considered by the new government as ‘an offense to the people” and a national symbol of the “opulent and the ridiculous’ was procured by the previous government back in 2012 for a cost of 370 million US dollars. This new Mexican government will sell this aircraft along with other 60 governmental panes and 70 helicopters.

The aircraft will be sent for sale on December 3rd to the Victorville in Southern California where it will await its new owner.
