75th anniversary of D-Day on Jun. 5 2019; 20+ Douglas C-47 Skytrain and Dakota retrace flights from Britain to original D-Day Drop Zones in Normandy, France
On June 5th, 2019 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day; a big flyover will be held over the skies of Normandy, France.
For this flyover tribute, more than 30 of the Douglas C-47 Skytrain and Dakota transport aircraft will be retracing their flights from Great Britain and flying over the original D-Day Drop Zones in Normandy, France.
Furthermore, paratroopers will be released from these aircraft wearing that period’s uniform while operating the World War II style parachutes. This airborne armada with its flight and para-trooping action is going to be a high salute for the Greatest Generation, The Allied Citizen Soldiers who despite caring for their lives fought for the freedom of their fellow countrymen and paid the price for it with their blood.
These C-47s will make their arrival t partake in this Daks over Normandy from all across Europe.
However, the largest contingent will be coming from North America while flying the flying the same ‘Blue Spruce’ ferry route used to cross the North Atlantic during WWII.
These aircraft will fly together in mutual support under the same banner of the D-Day Squadron. This will also be an effort to bring the American-based Douglas transports to Europe.
