Two U.S. military aircraft C-130 and FA-18 involved in a mishap during Aerial Refueling off Iwakuni, Japan; 7 personnel missing

On December 6th, 2018 news started circulating on Twitter which indicated that two of the US Military aircraft crashed during the midair refueling operation. At the time of the refueling, these two aircraft were off Iwakuni, Japan where this incident happened.

According to these early reports, one aircraft involved in the crash was an F/A-18, an unspecified variant while the other was C-130.

Both of these aircraft had a total of seven crew members onboard who are still missing. According to the reports, the F/A-18 was a two-seat variant while the C-130 had five crew members onboard.

The news was posted on the official US Marines Twitter page which states as follows,

“Search and rescue operations continue for a KC-130 and an F/A-18 that were involved in a mishap off of the coast of Japan around 2:00 a.m. Dec. 6. The circumstances of the mishap are currently under investigation.”
