    Turkish Airlines helps bring back Gypsy Girl Mosaic back home on the Boeing 777-300

    On November 27thg, 2018 Turkish Airlines banned all of its other cargo flights when they transported the Mosaic art collection which dates able to 2nd Century BC from Chicago to Istanbul.

    These missing Mosaic masterpieces were recovered from a museum located in Ohio, USA. Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism with extensive pressure was able to retrieve it from the USA and now these masterpieces will be put on a display at the Zeugma Mosaic Museum. Zeugma Mosaic Museum is also the world’s second largest Mosaic museum in the world located in the city of Gaziantep, Turkey.

    This precious and national cargo weighed around 1.3 ton in total was handled by the airline’s special cargo operations team. The art was wrapped in pieces of specially manufactured paper and was carefully placed inside the wooden crates as they were barded on the Boeing 777-300 ER Flight.

    These missing masterpieces were smuggled out of Gaziantep 47 years ago and included the following art pieces.

    • Young Satir
    • pan mask
    • female theatre mask
    • Indian peacock
    • Maenad mask
    • bird with plant branches in its beak

    All of these masterpieces are considered to be the missing parts of the great art named as the “Gypsy Girl Mosaic”.
