Hamburg Airport is now officially ready to receive the Airbus A380. All the necessary works to house the new aircraft have been completed and with this Hamburg is the world’s only airport to house this largest passenger carrier in the world. According to officials, on October 29th, 2018, Emirates airline is going to be the only airline in the world to fly off A380 for scheduled services from the Hamburg Airport.
With the deployment of this double Decker aircraft, the airline will see a capacity increase of about 22 percent on any route. Emirates airline with this large aircraft is going to e able to offer 6090 weekly seats along with business and leisure travelers to Germany, Dubai and many other 150 world destinations. This is going to enhance the Hamburg Airport’s importance for the Emirates airline’s global network.
Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, and Volker Greiner, Emirates Vice President North and Central Europe; both released a statement two weeks ago that the new Airbus A380 passengers will be able to board the aircraft from three simultaneous boarding bridges.
Hamburg Airport already has double boarding bridges but with this new access way, travelers will be able to board the upper deck of the double Decker aircraft directly from the terminal. Airport invested in about 750,000 Euros for the construction of this new boarding bridge, especially for Airbus A380.
This Emirate A380 aircraft provides the following seating capacity or various passengers.
- 516 total seats
- 14 of them are first class Private Suites
- 76 are the fully flatbed seat for Business Class (located on upper deck)
- The main deck houses 426 spacious Economy Class seats
Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport said in a statement, “for the passengers to board on the Airbus A380 comfortably and both quickly, the need for a third boarding bridge was prerequisite. This is why the entire airport team worked relentlessly to make the connection to the upper deck as fast as possible. All of this has been achieved in a record time.”
