Halifax Stanfield Airport; Sky Lease Cargo Boeing 747 arriving from Chicago went off to the end of runway 32

On November 7th, 2018 a scheduled Cargo Boeing 747 of the Sky Lease was scheduled for a landing from Chicago at the runway 32 of the Halifax Stanfield Airport.

The aircraft did make its landing at the runway but it went off to the end of the runway unexpectedly.




The airport at this incident immediately activated their emergency protocols and dispatched their emergency response team to the site of the accident.

In addition to the airport’s own emergency services other local emergency services like Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Halifax Regional Police (HRP), Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE), and Emergency Health Services (EHS) also immediately arrived on the scene.

There were four crew members aboard the aircraft, all of whom had been safely evacuated d from the aircraft. They have been transported to the local hospital for treatment of their minor injuries. The airport has temporarily closed off the airfield.

Until any further notice from airport officials, there will be no departures or landing from the airport.

Passengers are being advised by airport to check with their respective airlines for the status of their prior flights before coming to the airport.

Investigators from the transportation safety board have already made an appearance on the site of the accident.
