AAF (Afghan Air Force) received its last for MD-530 Cayuse Warrior Helicopters from USA back in 2016. This now brings a total of 27 helicopters in AAF inventory.

In the today’s video according to the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, Kabul Afghanistan, fly Afghan air force MD-530 Cayuse Warrior helicopters for range training”. The video was taken back in August of 2016.

MD-530F helicopter is designed for high altitude and hot weather missions. H main purpose of this helicopter is to provide close air support to the ground troops.

AFF was also awarded a contract worth of 13.2 million dollars with this deal of helicopters. The deal included attachment of seven tube M260 launcher for the 70 mm missiles rockets for these MD-530Fs.

Lt. Col. Bill Ashford of the 438th Air Expeditionary Advisory Squadron Commander said that, “MD-530s are used for flying multiple missions across Afghanistan. These choppers are used for following purposes.

  • providing aerial support to conveys
  • providing over watch to ANDSF operations
  • resending to assists troops in contact situations

These helicopters in the AFF inventory ahs allowed the military to actively impact the counter insurgency operations in Afghanistan.

Although the base of operations for these MD-530s is in Kabul, they are being deployed to support south, central and eastern Afghanistan territories. The size of the MD-530s allows the Afghani army to transport their C-130’s wherever they are needed. The weapons systems of these helicopters are advance enough to target a variety of enemy hostiles. With their presence in Afghanistan, insurgent operations have been critically neutralized to great extent.
