British Airways is currently investigating in rather urgency the theft of their customer’s personal data. The data has been stolen by hackers from the airline’s official site “ba.com” as well as from their mobile app. This has been of confirmed that the travel plans and passport data have not been hacked instead the hackers did hack the information of credit cards of about 38000 passengers.
According to the latest announcement from British Airways, from the date in between 21st August 2018 to 5th September 2018; personal and financial details of the customers who make bookings on ba.com and the airline’s mobile app has been compromised.
At the time breach has been tackled and the website is once again functioning properly.
The breach has also been notified to the relevant authorities and also to the British Police.
Alex Cruz, British Airways’ Chairman, and Chief Executive said in a statement that, “we are deeply regretful for the inconvenience caused by this criminal activity. We take the protection of our customer’s data very seriously”.
British Airways has announced that at the appropriate time they will provide the updates.
